Born in New York of Puerto Rican parents. My mother was from Carolina and my father from Caguas, Puerto Rico.
I have been with NACOPRW since 1974 when our meetings were held at the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico Office. We have come a long way and I am proud to see our women carrying the torch and passing it on to our youth.
I started piano lessons at the age of 3. Besides taking private lessons, I also studied piano a few years at the prestigious Juilliard Institute of Music. Leonard Bernstein & I were the only ones in class that had perfect pitch. (I was the youngest in the class & he was in his late20's).
My first professional engagement was at the age of 15 with Chucho Montalban, Manager/Owner of the Puerto Rico Theater, on Brook Avenue, in the Bronx. I've had the priviledge to "sit-in" & played with Tito Puente, Machito, Charlie/Willie Palmieri etc. I'm proud to say that I played with and for the best in the music world, including Celia Cruz.
I worked as a Federal Investigator in 2 Departments (DED/HUD). I retired after 37years. Since 1995 to the present, I've been doing volunteer work at Lenox Hill Neighborhood House.
